Hello

I've had a few blogs before but never really got anywhere with them. The only other one I keep updated is on the Carrie Underwood fan club.

I am Scotland's biggest Country music fan. Love listening to anyone from Carrie Underwood to George Strait, Dolly Parton to Jace Everett. As you may or may not know, Country isn't played much in Scotland (for reasons unknown). It has a bit of a bad stereotypical image of broken down cars, dead dogs, wives leaving husbands, etc, etc all that old crap.I must say i've never heard that many Country songs on those subjects, and if people would actually listen to it, particularly anything made in the last 30 years, they'd see that is damn good music.
So far i've been to see Alison Krauss & Union Station, Jace Everett (three times, front row twice and met him at the third, he is a great guy, brilliant music), Dierks Bentley, Kenny Rogers (with a local guy called JJ Gilmour), Willie Nelson (who had about FIVE opening acts including Eddi Reader, Sharon Shannon & Damien Dempsey), Gretchen Peters (who was here with Matraca Berg & Suzy Bogguss, and Jeff Hana from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band showed up. Dean Owens was their opening act and it was a great night, got to meet Gretchen afterwards). I've also seen Rosanne Cash (with another local called Roddy Hart, who bored me to sleep [almost] both times I saw him), Julie Roberts (who is the sweetest person i've ever met, and her music is fantastic), Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Laura McGhee (a brilliant Scottish Folk/Country artist), Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and Glen Campbell (with his daughter Debby. That concert was fantastic and I still can't believe I had front row seats for it, sitting a few feet from such a legend).
I've already got some tickets for 2008. A few from Celtic Connections -
Suzy Bogguss, Mindy Smith, Julie Fowlis, Blazin' Fiddles, Kelly Clarkson.
Transatlantic Sessions - Joan Osborne, Tim O'Brien, Mindy Smith, Darrell Scott, Eddi Reader, Karen Matheson, Aly Bain, Jerry Douglas, Russ Barenberg, Gary West, Alison Brown, Phil Cunningham, James Mackintosh, Donald Shaw, Michael McGoldrick and John Doyle
Shetland Night - Fiddlers' Bid, Aly Bain, Chris Stout, Jenna Reid, Filska, Alex Cluness, The Cullivoe Fiddlers, Jim Halcrow Band, Brian Gear and Hom Bru
(http://www.celticconnections.com/)
Also going to see Willie, Dolly & Kris again. WOOOOOO.

I also like playing acoustic guitar. And no I don't claim to be Brad Paisley, Glen Campbell, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis or any other of the great guitar players, but I try. I've posted some clips on my Myspace - http://www.myspace.com/davidn1987 - and you can see what music i'm listening to at http://www.last.fm/user/davidn87/

I'm a big reader as well. Used to be into Star Trek big time and had hundreds of books I never read, but in the last couple of years i've got back into reading again. I like a bit of scifi and westerns, and last year I read most of the Left Behind series, which I really enjoyed.

I also enjoy spending time with my family.

So now you know me, mostly.
